Small intestinal mucosa expression of putative chaperone fls485

Medworm - Sat, 03/06/2010 - 16:00
Conclusions: Expression and synthesis of fls485 are found in surface lining epithelia of normal human intestinal mucosa and deriving epithelial cell lines. An interdependence of enterocyte differentiation along the crypt-villus axis and fls485 chaperone activity might be possible. (Source: BMC Gastroenterology)

Endocytotic segregation of gliadin peptide 31-49 in enterocytes

Medworm - Fri, 03/05/2010 - 03:12
Conclusions Endocytic segregation of gliadin peptide AA 31–49 seems to be a constitutive process. It explains why this peptide cannot stimulate gluten-sensitive T cells. Presentation of gliadin peptides by HLA-DR proteins via late endosomes within enterocytes might induce a tolerogenic effect and constitutes a potentially promising therapeutic approach for induction of tolerance towards gliadin. Lysosomal accumulation of gliadin p31-43 peptide induces oxidative stress and tissue transglutaminase-mediated PPAR{gamma} downregulation in intestinal epithelial cells and coeliac mucosa

Medworm - Fri, 03/05/2010 - 03:12
Conclusion p31–43 accumulation in lysosomes leads to epithelial activation via the ROS–TG2 axis. TG2 works as a rheostat of ubiquitination and proteasome degradation and drives inflammation via PPAR downregulation. (Source: Gut)

Endoscopy 2010; 42: 197-202DOI: 10.1055/s-0029-1243937 Improved endoscopic screening with targeted biopsies might enhance diagnostic yield in celiac disease. Confocal endomicroscopy (CEM) allows high-resolution in vivo histological analysis. We compared the endomicroscopic findings during ongoing endoscopy with the histological findings graded according to the Marsh classification.[...]© Georg Thieme Verlag KG Stuttgart · New YorkGet connected:Table of contents  |  Abstract  |  Full text (Source: Endoscopy)

Medworm - Tue, 03/02/2010 - 04:00
New research has identified four aspects of immune system disturbance which lead to the development of coeliac disease. Nearly 40 different inherited risk factors which predispose to the disease have now been identified. These latest findings could speed the way towards improved diagnostics and treatments for the autoimmune complaint that affects 1 in 100 of the population, and lead to insights into related conditions such as type 1 diabetes... Impact of Gluten-free Camp on Quality of Life of Children and Adolescents with Celiac Disease

Medworm - Mon, 03/01/2010 - 08:02
CONCLUSIONS: Children who had CD and attended a week-long gluten-free camp demonstrated improvement in well-being, self-perception, and emotional outlook. The positive effects of camp were more apparent among campers who had been on a GFD for <4 years compared with those who had been on a GFD for ≥4 years, suggesting an adaptation to CD with time. A gluten-free camp that provides an environment of unrestricted foods can at least temporarily alleviate stress and anxiety around food and social interactions. Durability of these observations on return to daily life requires additional study. (Source: PEDIATRICS)
